Federated Identity System

« Back to Glossary Index

A federated identity system allows multiple software systems to access identity information from a centralized source. This system enables users to log in using their existing accounts. In an enterprise setting, a federated identity system enables branch offices to manage their own identity systems, while connecting these systems to a centralized source at the head office. This allows employees to access computer systems at different branches, though differing access policies may still be in place.
